Experimental geometric portrait series inspired by the Diamond Authority characters from Steven Universe.
Blue Diamond
The first piece in the series is Blue Diamond, whose portrait draws inspiration from artistic interpretations of the Virgin Mary. Her design emphasizes symmetry, softness, and layered shapes to reflect the character’s emotional and almost mythological presence within the series.
Yellow Diamond
The second portrait in the series is Yellow Diamond. While her design appears to be the simplest of the four, it was also the illustration I struggled with the most. Yellow can be a surprisingly difficult color palette to work with on its own, requiring careful adjustments to contrast, value, and shape relationships to maintain depth without losing the boldness associated with the character.
Pink Diamond
Pink Diamond underwent the most revisions throughout the project, with a total of three major versions created over time. Her character is introduced with a great deal of mystery in the series, and as new lore about her story was revealed, the portrait continued to evolve alongside it. Of the three iterations, this final version feels the most representative of the character and her complexities revealed throughout the show.
White Diamond
White Diamond is the most recent portrait in the series and remains my personal favorite. Inspired by the character’s perfectionist personality and commanding presence, the illustration leans heavily into sharp angles, symmetry, and structured geometry. While all four portraits share the same visual language, this piece pushed the geometric approach furthest and became the strongest expression of the series as a whole.
